Integrating PDCA vs AAR
The PDCA
- This cycle primarily focuses on problem-solving and continuous improvement within a particular process or problem area.
- It’s a structured approach for making changes, implementing them, checking their impact, and acting accordingly.
The After-Action Review (AAR)
Extends beyond the PDCA cycle.
- It’s a tool often used in project management or after significant activities or events to analyze the overall performance and identify areas for improvement.
- It allows for a more comprehensive examination of the entire process, aiming to derive broader lessons, refine strategies, and ensure alignment with overarching objectives.
- If there’s a deviation or if the solution doesn’t fully align with the strategic goals, the AAR offers insights for refining or completely altering the approach for better results.
